Role Overview

Job Title: Product Engineer – DM Vans

Location: Rifle, CO

Job Type: Full-time

Work Location: On-site required during onboarding; hybrid considered after ramp.

The Product Engineer at DM Vans is responsible for creating, organizing, and releasing all manufacturing-ready digital assets—CAD models, CNC files, and documentation—required to build our award-winning Lifestyle Vehicles®.

This role develops 3D assemblies, flat patterns, toolpaths, and nest layouts for CNC-cut parts, ensuring every component is fully ready for production and easy for operators to run “without thinking twice.” The Product Engineer works closely with Design Engineering, CNC Operations, and Manufacturing to translate concepts into accurate, efficient, and repeatable build processes.

This role reports to the Director of Customer Experience + Product and works closely with Operations, Manufacturing, and the CNC team.

Core Values

At DM Vans, our values shape our work and our relationships with our team and customers:

  • Assertive and Open-Minded at the Same Time: Encourage open communication, confident decision-making, and the ability to listen and adapt.
  • Self-Aware: Demonstrate an understanding of personal strengths and areas for improvement, fostering personal and professional growth.
  • Ambitious: Continuously strive for excellence, both in individual performance and company-wide objectives.
  • Authentic: Lead with sincerity and genuine care for both team members and customers.

Not Assholes: Cultivate a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment where kindness and collaboration thrive.

Key Responsibilities

CAD/CAM & CNC Programming

  • Create and maintain 3D CAD assemblies and flat part exports for all manufactured components.

  • Generate CNC toolpaths, nesting layouts, and post-processed NC programs ready for production.

  • Run simulations and verify toolpaths for correct material thickness, collision-free machining, and proper cutting strategies.

  • Select appropriate tools, feeds, and speeds to balance cut quality, tool life, and cycle time.

Manufacturing-Ready Documentation

  • Produce complete manufacturing packages including DXFs, NC files, tool lists, setup sheets, nest layouts, and material specifications.

  • Maintain strict revision control, file naming conventions, and structured documentation folders to ensure clarity and traceability.

  • Prepare cut lists, part-label mappings, and material data to give operators clear, usable information at the machine and on the floor.

  • Ensure every release meets “Ready for Manufacture (RFM)” standards with complete sign-off and traceability.

  • RFM includes: correct material/thickness, verified toolpaths, labeled nests, setup sheets, and revision-controlled release to the shop floor.

Production Support & Floor Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with CNC Operators to ensure files run cleanly on the shop floor; provide troubleshooting support as needed.

  • Capture on-floor adjustments, feedback, and real-world workarounds and integrate them into future file updates and standards.

  • Partner with Manufacturing and Operations to improve handoffs, reduce rework, and ensure digital instructions reflect actual build practices.

Continuous Improvement & Optimization

  • Support continuous improvements in nesting efficiency, machining time, tool longevity, and file organization.

  • Standardize templates, naming conventions, and workflows to make the CAD/CAM environment clean, scalable, and easy for others to understand.

Help document best practices and contribute to internal “how we build” standards for DM Vans’ products.

Reporting & Performance Metrics

Track and contribute to KPIs related to:

  • File Readiness & Accuracy: Low error rate on released NC programs and CAD files; minimal rework caused by digital assets.

  • Throughput & Efficiency: Improvements in average cycle time, nesting yield, and tool utilization.

  • Floor Feedback: Reduced number of file-related issues reported by CNC Operators and production staff.

  • Revision Control: Timely updates to drawings, nests, and toolpaths with clear documentation and traceability.

  • RFM Compliance: High percentage of releases meeting Ready for Manufacture standards on first pass.

First 90 Days Success Looks Like

  • Understand DM Vans file structure + RFM standards and follow them consistently.

  • Own release process for assigned parts/components with minimal CNC rework.

  • Improve one measurable throughput metric (nest yield, cycle time, or tool life).

  • Build trust with CNC Operators (fewer “file issues” and faster resolution).

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years in CAD/CAM, CNC programming, product engineering, or manufacturing design.

  • Proficiency in Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar CAD/CAM software.

  • Understanding of CNC routing processes (wood, composites, or similar materials preferred).

  • Experience with nesting, tooling selection, feeds/speeds, and manufacturing optimization.

  • Working knowledge of material selection and design for manufacturability across wood, metals, plastics, fabrics, and hardware systems.

  • Strong documentation discipline: file organization, version control, and clear digital workflows.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and manufacturing requirements.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in a fast-paced production environment where accuracy matters.

Please include a brief portfolio or examples of CAD/CAM work (screenshots, drawings, nests, setup sheets, or redacted packages).

Who You Are

  • You love creating clarity from complexity and translating ideas into precise, build-ready assets.

  • You’re energized by the blend of design, engineering, and hands-on manufacturing.

  • You are detail-oriented, organized, and motivated by building efficient, repeatable processes.

  • You communicate well across teams, enjoy collaborative problem-solving, and listen actively to feedback from the shop floor.

  • You take pride in producing work that operators can trust without hesitation.

You embody DM Vans’ core values—assertive and open-minded, self-aware, ambitious, authentic, and never an asshole.

Compensation & Growth

  • Base Salary: Starting at $70,000 (DOE)

  • Benefits: Health, dental, vision, and 401(k).

  • Employee Ownership: Eligible for the DM Vans employee-ownership program, sharing in long-term success.

Career Path: Opportunities to grow into Senior Product Engineer, Product Engineering Manager, or other Product & Manufacturing Engineering leadership roles as the company continues to scale.
